This word – tribe. I’ve been hearing it everywhere lately. And I’ve made it my mission to find mine.
I’ve been a people pleaser and a peacemaker my entire life. While I don’t think those are bad qualities by any means, I do find that I have a tendency to squelch my personality or my feelings to make other people feel more comfortable. In the long term, I don’t think that has done me any favors. While I still want to see people smile and get along, I’m tired of sacrificing my own personal happiness to do that. I think there is a time and a place for everything – including standing up for yourself and who you are. Over time I have been slowly adopting my husband’s mentality – you either love me, or you don’t. And while I have ruffled some feathers and made some people uncomfortable (who knew purple hair and red lipstick could do that), I am becoming more and more comfortable at embracing my crazy self.
Maybe you find yourself in a similar situation. Or maybe…you just read that and it sparked something inside. Maybe that described you (with an exception, possibly, of the purple hair) and you didn’t even realize you were doing it. And maybe, just maybe…you are looking for your tribe too! You are also looking for a group of like-minded women who desire to make the world a better place. Who crave a healthy and adventurous life. Women who embrace diversity and support each other in discovering their own unique, crazy, (because we are all crazy, right) beautiful selves. Who dare to dream big.
I have spent the last few years discovering my own personal style and really embracing my uniqueness. While I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, I have learned to become okay with that. When you try to please everybody, you often end up disappointing yourself. Which is exactly what happened with me. I don’t ever want to see anybody sacrificing who they are to fit in. God created us and wired is so differently. When you seek out mirror images of yourself, you don’t get to experience the diverse personalities and cultures that God created. And personally – I think that’s missing out on something huge! It has been THROUGH diversity that I have learned about the world, about God, and about myself.
We don’t have to have the same personalities or fashion sense to be a tribe. We just need to have some common ground. If you are looking for a way to BE the change you want to see in this world, seeking a healthier lifestyle, or need help discovering your personal style…then you have found the right spot! That is what I am all about here and YOU are who I am looking for! If you can embrace me and my purple hair and my ever-evolving fashion tastes – then I think we just might be friends!
